Q: What inspired you to work with Accountants?
A: I found that Accountants often have incredibly valuable businesses, but they’re so busy focusing on their clients that they don’t have the time to think about their own exit strategy. I’m very honest when it comes to discussing the market and their options, and I’m passionate about helping them navigate this important step in their career. 💡💬

Q: What tips do you have for Accountants thinking about exiting?
A: Priority one is to have a succession plan in place. 🗂️ It’s essential to communicate your intentions with your team and get their buy-in.

Plan B is to consider merging or selling the practice. 🤝 This can be a very nervous time for Vendors, which is why we believe it’s important to meet with the Merger Partner/Buyer regularly during the process. This ensures you can gain comfort that they’re the right fit for your clients and staff. 😊

Lastly, have a transition plan in place for the handover of clients. 🛠️ A smooth transition is key to maintaining relationships and ensuring the success of the process.

Q: What’s your approach to work and client relationships?
A: I’m a bit ‘old-school.’ 📜 I still prefer reading long reports in paper format—it helps me focus and absorb the details. I also strongly believe in meeting potential clients in person, both before and during our collaboration. Building trust and understanding face-to-face is invaluable, which is why I travel a lot. ✈️🌍

Q: How do you stay active?
A: I enjoy riding an exercise bike 🚴‍♂️ but prefer to avoid cycling outdoors. When in Newcastle, I like walking to and from the office—it’s a great way to start and end the day. 🚶‍♂️🌳

Q: Do you enjoy travelling?
A: Absolutely! 🌎 My wife is originally from Peru, and we travel to South America every 2–3 years. It’s always an incredible experience to visit family and immerse myself in the culture (and practise my Spanish, which still needs work!). 🇵🇪✏️

Q: Do you have a favourite place you’ve visited?
A: Havana, Cuba, and Cartagena, Colombia, are at the top of my list. Both have incredible history 📖, stunning sites 🏝️, welcoming people 🤗, and the music is terrific. 🎶
